Technical Information
Don Pitcher works with Canon professional cameras and lenses (from 14 mm to 500 mm), and shoots entirely in digital RAW using a Canon ID Mark II and a backup Canon 10D. He uses 2 gb and 4 gb Compact Flash and SD cards when shooting. On trips, he transfers images to a 12-inch Mac PowerBook G4, backing up files on an external hard drive or DVDs.
In the office, these images are processed on a dual 1.8 G5 Mac (3.5 GB of Ram and two 500 GB internal drives), with backup to external hard drives up to 1 terabite. Images are processed using Photoshop CS3, with Apple Aperture for photo management and Spyder2Pro/PrintFix for color calibration. His near-archival prints are made on an Epson 2400.

Travel guidebooks
The second edition of Don Pitcher's Moon San Juan Islands, was released in 2005. New editions of Moon Yellowstone & Grand Teton and Moon Wyoming came out in 2006, followed by the eighth edition of Moon Alaska this year. The third edition of San Juan Islands was released in 2008. Don served as editor for the 4th edition of Best Places Alaska, which also came out this year. He is a contributor to Triporati.com and other websites, along with such books as DK Eyewitness Travel Alaska and DK Eyewitness Travel USA.
Because of other writing and photography commitments (not to mention two young kids), Don will no longer update Moon Washington; future editions will be written by another Moon author. Unfortunately, the publisher has yet to hired that person, so this rapidly aging edition will have to suffice until 2009! |
